LIQUOR SHOPS TO STAY CLOSED FOR 2 DAYS FROM THURSDAY. CHECK DETAILS

Liquor shops across Noida and Greater Noida in Gautam Buddh Nagar constituency will remain closed for a period of 48 hours from Wednesday evening in view of the Lok Sabha elections.

Gautam Buddha Nagar is scheduled to go for polls on April 26, during the second phase in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024. Voting will take place from 7 am to 6 pm on Friday. 

District Excise Officer Subodh Kumar Srivastava said the enforcement of the order will be strictly ensured in the district and violators will face legal action, including penalty or jail, in compliance with the rules.

"As per rules, liquor outlets should close down 48 hours ahead of the election. Here, all authorised liquor outlets will remain closed from 6 pm on Wednesday (April 24) to 6 pm, or end of voting time, on Friday (April 26)," Srivastava said, according to a report in PTI.

"Excise officials are continuously monitoring the sales of liquor in Noida and Greater Noida in view of the elections and inspecting all complaints of irregularities to ensure timely action," he added.

The official said that during the period of closure, any person found selling liquor illegally would face strict legal action, including penalty or jail term, as per Excise laws.

The upcoming election in Gautam Buddha Nagar is expected to be a three-way battle between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Samajwadi Party (SP), and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).

While Mahesh Sharma is contesting for the BJP, the BSP has chosen Rajendra Singh Solanki as their candidate and SP has fielded Mahendra Nagar.

The Gautam Buddha Nagar Lok Sabha constituency was created after delimitation in 2008 based on the recommendations of the Delimitation Commission. The Lok Sabha seat was previously part of the Khurja Lok Sabha constituency.
