'I DEMANDED INSULIN EVERY DAY': ARVIND KEJRIWAL'S LETTER TO TIHAR DEBUNKING 2 'FALSE' STATEMENTS

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday wrote a letter to Tihar Jail administration's statements on his health and said he had been requesting insulin daily as he was a diabetic patient. In a letter to the Superintendent of Tihar Jail, Kejriwal said his glucose metre reading had a "dangerous" range between 250 and 320. He said the jail administration was lying about his health due to "political pressure".

"Today I read in the newspapers that you have made certain false and misleading statements regarding my health. Statement No. 1: ‘The issue of insulin was never raised by Kejriwal’ :This is false. I have raised the issue of insulin for 10 days, every day, multiple times. I showed my high sugar levels to every doctor who came to see me. I showed them that there were 3 peaks in the sugar level every day - between 250-320. I also showed them that my fasting sugar level was in the range of 160-200 every day. Almost every day, I demanded insulin. Then how could you make such a statement that I never raised the issue of insulin?," he wrote.

The Chief Minister dismissed the AIIM doctors' assurances that his health was fine and there was no serious concern. He clarified that doctors would provide details on data and the history of his health issues.

"Statement No.2: ‘AIIMS doctors assured that there is no serious concern’ - AIIMS doctors never assured any such thing. They said that they will see all the data and then give their advise," Arvind Kejriwal wrote.

"I am pained that you have issued false statements under political pressure. I hope that you will follow the law and constitution," he added.

Notably, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused the Tihar administration of denying insulin to Kejriwal, who suffers from diabetes. The party has also alleged a "conspiracy" to "kill" him.

On April 19, the Tihar Jail administration submitted a report to Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, saying the Chief Minister's health was reviewed on April 10 and April 15 by a medicine specialist who advised oral anti-diabetic drugs, and that it's "incorrect to state that Kejriwal was denied insulin at any point" during the treatment.

AAP minister Atishi today held a press conference and claimed, "When ED had put forward the points of AIIMS doctor, till then there was no consultation with AIIMS doctor of Kejriwal. In the letter also, 2 days back they did not request for diabetologist. No diabetologist was consulted."

"In the court submitted the diet chart prescribed by AIIMS. Insulin was noted on the basis of this diet chart Who made this diet chart? This diet chart was not made by any diabetologist but just by a nutrition department," she claimed.

"It's just a standard diet chart. They say we have consulted top Dr of AIIMS. The doctor who has signed is not a diabetologist but a dietician. She is not even MBBS. She could be a senior nutritionist but Kejriwal who is the CM and his sugar level is fluctuating continuously. Is getting treatment from her. No doctor can say that sugar level above 300 could be controlled without insulin," she added.
