For Aman, being obese was itself an inspiration to lose all weight and live a happy, healthy life, devoid of any health complications which he had begun to feel – like breathlessness, and constant fatigue.

How did Aman lose weight?

Aman completed his weight loss journey in more than a year, where he incorporated a mix of diet, and exercise to maintain the balance.

Aman says he followed a balanced diet focusing on whole food groups like grains, fruits, and vegetables which are higher in nutrients like fibre, minerals, and vitamins. According to nutritionists, whole foods allow nutrients to act together like they were meant to and lower rates of heart disease, cancer, and type-2 diabetes.

Aman said he curbed his emotional eating, which got him obese in the first place, but never went hungry and ate small meals. That helps you stay full for a longer time and not craving for junk or processed foods.

He took the help of a therapist to understand the intricacies of emotions and food which helped him be firmer on his decision to lose weight.

Eliminating sugar and sugary drinks was another goal he ticked, while prioritizing drinking lots of water daily to hydrate the body.

“I eliminated sugary drinks and increased my water intake,” he said.

According to experts, cutting out sources of all kinds of added sugar in your diet can help you lose weight faster, especially when paired with a nutrient-dense diet that's high in protein and fibre.

Foods and beverages high in sugar are rich in calories but low in filling nutrients and that is why a diet high in sugary foods has been linked to weight gain.

High sugar intake is also associated with elevated visceral fat, the type of fat that sits around your organs, especially the belly area. Having increased visceral fat is strongly correlated to increased disease risk.

Exercise regime

Apart from clean eating, Aman also consistently followed a workout routine, which he says has played a crucial role in his fitness journey. Aman followed a heady mix of cardio, strength training, and toning exercises, sweating out at least five days a week.

Aman says even though he occasionally indulged in cheat meals, allowing to satisfy his cravings once in a while to maintain a healthy relationship with foods, he was consistent in his ways and means.

He also followed intermittent fasting, which accelerated his weight loss.

“I adhered to a disciplined routine, staying committed to my diet and exercise plan even on challenging days. This unwavering commitment propelled me forward,” he said.

Aman now weighs 72 kg and continues his fitness journey.
