Google is gearing up to introduce a surprising shift in its smartphone launch strategy by unveiling three different versions of the Pixel 9 later this year. According to a recent report by Forbes citing OnLeaks, this marks a departure from Google's traditional approach of releasing one or two flagship models.

The leak reveals that Google will expand its Pixel 9 lineup by adding a third "XL" variant alongside the previously anticipated smaller devices. Initially, OnLeaks had provided insights into two smaller Pixel 9 models, differing from the current Pixel 8. However, contrary to expectations, both of these leaked devices are identified as Pixel 9 Pro units, with the newly unveiled 6.5-inch Pixel 9 Pro XL making its debut as the "XL" offering.

As per Forbes report, the leak also sheds light on the identity of the base Pixel 9, which features only two camera sensors and a 6.03-inch display. Notably, renders depict the Pixel 9 with rounder edges, a flat display, and a redesigned camera bump, drawing clear parallels to Apple's iPhone in terms of aesthetics and product strategy.

Google's decision to revive the "XL" moniker, previously used for larger Pixel models, underscores its effort to cater to diverse consumer preferences. Despite the moniker, the top Pixel 9 model measures slightly shorter than its predecessor, the Pixel 8 Pro.

The introduction of a second Pro unit and the downsizing of the entire lineup suggest Google's intention to appeal to users who may prefer smaller devices but still desire the advanced camera hardware offered in the Pro models.
