LIGHTNING WILL NOT STRIKE AGAIN: APPLE RETIRES ITS LAST IPAD WITH HOME BUTTON, HEADPHONE JACK

Apple has launched a bunch of new iPads after a long gap. The iPad Pro 2024 brings an OLED display and Apple M4 silicon, while the new iPad Air gets you a pro-sized display for cheap. The company also updated its “entry-level” iPad range dropping the price of the tenth-generation model and killing off the ninth-generation version altogether. Many had expected that the iPad 9 would get the axe after the launch of the iPad 11—which as per reports isn’t planned before the end of 2024—but clearly, Apple was on another tangent.

But what this means is that with the end of the iPad 9, Apple has basically removed the last iPad—that it was making—with not one but two old-school technologies. The ninth-generation iPad, which has stuck around since 2021, still had the lightning port and home button. It also had a headphone jack. All these are now relics of the past, at least for iPad. What this also means is that all the iPads that Apple makes today have USB Type-C port, complying with EU rules and regulations that actually started the end of Lightning in the first place.

iPad tenth-generation India price revision

The iPad 10 was launched in 2022 at a starting price of Rs 44,900 with Wi-Fi and Rs 59,900 with 5G. The prices have been revised effective May 7, 2024. The 64GB iPad with Wi-Fi is now priced at Rs 34,900 while the 256GB version will set you back by Rs 49,900. The 64GB iPad with Wi-Fi and cellular is now priced at Rs 49,900 while the 256GB version will set you back by Rs 64,900.

As of May 7, 2024, Apple’s iPad line-up is a bit cleaner than before with the following models— iPad 10, iPad iPad Mini 5, iPad Air 6, and iPad Pro 7.
