TORNADO IN DENVER? NO, SIRENS TODAY ARE JUST A TEST

Denver residents on Wednesday heard tornado sirens going off across the city. They were left wondering if the Colorado capital was hit by a twister. However, that is not the case. At 11 AM local time, authorities conducted its annual test of the all-hazard outdoor sirens. Usually, the sound gives locals a heads up to seek shelter and seek more information, according to emergency management.

The test on Wednesday was conducted by the Denver Office of Emergency Management. There are about 86 sirens across the city, which is home to the Nuggets, with 75 in Denver and 11 at the Denver International Airport. The sound was mostly be heard by people outdoors.

The sirens were initially installed for tornado warnings. But now they warn about any outdoor hazard, which includes severe weather, hazmat release, terrorism, mass violence and fires.

"Today, Wednesday, May 8 at 11 a.m. the city will be conducting a live outdoor warning siren test! The sirens will sound for 3 minutes. No action is required for the test," authorities had announced on X, platform formerly known as Twitter.

"Hey Denver, hear the sirens? Don't panic. It's just a test," one more person said.

Denver's siren test comes as several US states have been rocked by violent tornado storms. Michigan and Ohio were in the path of the storm on Tuesday. Severe damage was reported in the two states, with the storm hitting big metros of the two states.
