NIJJAR DEATH ROW: INDIAN ENVOY ISSUES STATEMENT ON ARREST OF 3 INDIAN NATIONALS IN CANADA

The Indian High Commissioner to Canada, Sanjay Verma, on May 4, issued a statement on the arrest of three Indian Nationals related to the Nijjar murder case.

"We have been informed by the Canadian officials about the arrest of three Indian nationals, residing in Canada, in connection with shooting of a Canadian citizen Hardeep Singh Nijjar. We hope to get regular updates from the concerned Canadian authorities regarding the arrested Indian nationals".

He further noted, "As stated time and again, it is not the policy of the Government of India to interfere in the internal affairs of other countries. We are always ready to work with partner countries in solving crimes, provided specific and relevant evidence is shared with us".

Given that this matter pertains to internal affairs within Canada, New Delhi has no comments to provide on the issue, Verma stated.

Canadian authorities apprehended individuals believed to be associated with a purported hit squad connected to the killing of Sikh militant Hardeep Singh Nijjar in British Columbia last year, as reported by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation on May 3.

Meanwhile, MEA S Jaishankar stated that India would await information from Canadian authorities regarding the arrests made.
