Do you dream of a luxurious living space without breaking the bank? Creating a home that exudes opulence doesn't require a hefty budget. With a little creativity and resourcefulness, you can transform your humble abode into a palatial haven. Here are some budget-friendly hacks from Punam Kalra, interior designer and creative director of I'm the Centre for Applied Arts:

Colour Palette

Kalra suggests using neutral tones as a backdrop to create a calming base. To add pops of colour and visual interest, incorporate jewel tones for statement pieces. "A mustard cocktail table can complement an original macrame tapestry background," she adds.

Similarly, a burgundy recliner can stand out against a beige wallpaper, an emerald dresser can complement life-size Frank Stella wall art, and a teal chaise can work well with a slatted walnut wood-clad wall, she continued.

Signature Statement Pieces

Instead of a random approach, Kalra recommends creating a personal style using signature statement pieces. "A crystal chandelier adds a touch of elegance and sets the mood, while an antique Chesterfield sofa offers timeless appeal. A Parisian apothecary table and a Windsor armchair are classic pieces that bring a holistic character to your living space," she explains.

Tactile Touches

Plush fabrics can add a luxurious and tactile touch to your statement pieces, says Kalra. "Satin silk provides a beautiful sheen, while embossed velvet adds visual interest and texture. Textured boucle offers a cozy and inviting feel, and milk leather brings a soft and natural look," she adds.

Conversation Starters

Kalra emphasises taking your interior design to an experiential level to achieve a luxurious feel. "Incorporate conversational pieces like commissioned artwork or a gallery wall with monochrome photo frames," she suggests. "Each piece should tell a story about the art and the effort behind its creation."

Maximalist Vintage Extravagance

Creating a sophisticated and traditional look can imbue your interiors with a sense of luxury. "Include elements like wood wainscotting, marble tile floors, fur rugs, bracketed wrought iron shelves, suede cabriole sofas, and velvet tufted ottomans," says Kalra. "These pieces add a touch of decadence, making the space appear rich and inviting."
