AT LEAST 4 KILLED, 45 INJURED AFTER BUS FALLS INTO DEEP GORGE IN TAMIL NADU

At least four passengers were killed and 45 others were injured in Tamil Nadu's Salem after a private bus lost control and plunged into a gorge on Tuesday, officials said. The incident occurred when a private bus en route from Yercaud to Salem veered out of control and plunged down a hill.

Initial reports indicate that the driver lost control of the vehicle near the 13th hairpin bend, careening down the hillside.

Rescue teams along with locals rushed to the accident site and shifted the injured to the Salem Government Hospital for treatment. However, six people succumbed to their injuries.

Salem Superintendent of Police Arun Kabilan and Salem MLA R Rajendran were present at the spot to oversee the rescue operations.

Reacting to the incident, Union minister of State L Murugan took to X (formerly known as Twitter) and extended his condolences to the bereaved families. The minister urged the Tamil Nadu government to provide adequate compensation to the victims and injured.
