CASTE VIOLENCE VICTIM FROM TAMIL NADU’S NANGUNERI PASSES CLASS 12 WITH 78%

A Dalit student named Chinnadurai at Tamil Nadu’s Nanguneri survived a caste-based attack in 2023 by three teens. Now, as per reports, Chinnadurai has proven his academic excellence by scoring 78 percent, that is 469 marks out of 600 in the class 12 exam. Due to multiple cut injuries on the hands and the body, Chinnadurai attempted his papers with the help of a scribe. He scored a 94 in computer applications, 93 in English and 85 in accountancy. He also got 84 in commerce, 71 in Tamil and 42 in economics. Chinnadurai’s hand is yet to heal completely. He wishes to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce and become a Chartered accountant. His hand was operated upon after the attack, but is yet to be healed completely.

Chinnadurai talked about this accomplishment in an interview with the ETV Bharat. He said, “I am very happy that I have scored high marks in the public examination. When I was receiving treatment in the hospital, the teachers came to teach me. That is why I was able to score high marks. There is no caste problem in the current school.”

He hoped that there would not be caste problems among students in the future. Chinnadurai’s younger sister Chandra Selvi, who also suffered in the attack, expressed her opinion. Selvi said that she is happy about her brother scoring the highest marks. According to Selvi, she has now recovered from the health problems due to a medical ailment.

The attack on Chinnadurai had sent shock waves across the country. As per the reports, he was being harassed at his school by some of the seniors hailing from the class 11th and 12th. Reportedly, they used to force him to purchase cigarettes for them. After being bullied by them for a long time, he opened up about the harassment and even stopped going to school. The school’s headmaster noticed the Nanguneri boy’s absence from the class. After learning about Chinnadurai’s problem, the headmaster called them and warned them of disciplinary action.

As per the reports, six people were arrested under the SC/ST Act in connection with the incident.
