CONGRESS FILES COMPLAINT AGAINST KANGANA RANAUT OVER REMARKS ON MOTILAL NEHRU
The Congress filed a complaint with the Election Commission against actor and BJP's candidate from Mandi, Kangana Ranaut, on Saturday for her "derogatory and insulting" remarks against senior leaders of the party.
The Congress said in its complaint, "Kangana Ranaut, speaking at a public meeting at Sarkaghat in Mandi, has used derogatory and insulting remarks against senior leaders of the Congress party and crossed all lines by making comparisons of freedom fighters with businessmen."
The complaint, filed by state conveners of the Himachal Pradesh Congress' legal department, Dhanajay Sharma and Dhiraj Thakur, stated, "She has tried to draw comparisons between freedom fighter Motilal Nehru with one of the top businessmen of the country."
During an election rally in Sarkaghat, Kangana Ranaut had attacked the Congress and had called former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru's father, Motilal Nehru, "the Ambani of his time".
"Motilal Nehru, the father of former prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru, was the Ambani of his time, but no one knew where his wealth and property came from. He was close to the British, and from where he got the wealth is still a secret," she said.
Kangana further went on to say nobody knows how Jawaharlal Nehru became the prime minister as the votes were "in favour of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel".
Since then, this "'deemak' (termite) of dynastic rule has infected the country", the actor said.
The Congress, in its complaint, said that Kangana has accused Sanjay Gandhi of "indulging in forcible vasectomy in India".
The party said that these are violations of the Model Code of Conduct and personal attack on persons who are no longer alive.
She also used derogatory language against Congress leader Sonia Gandhi and even called Congress leader Vikramaditya Singh, who is the party's candidate from Mandi, a "cartoon", the Congress said in the complaint, seeking to stop Kangana from taking part in any further campaigning.
