ENCOUNTER BETWEEN TERRORISTS AND SECURITY FORCES RESUMES IN J&K'S KULGAM AFTER 24-HOUR LULL

After a day-long lull, a fresh exchange of fire resumed at the encounter site in the Redwani area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Wednesday. The anti-terror operation, which started on Monday evening, resumed after 24 hours, following the spotting of a third terrorist in the area, sources said.

More forces were rushed to the spot and a gunfight started between the terrorist and security forces, they said.

The operation started on Monday night (May 6) after security forces received input about the presence of terrorists in the area.

Two terrorists, including a top “commander” of Lashkar-e-Taiba offshoot TRF who was involved in several cases of killing of policemen and civilians, were eliminated by security forces in the encounter on Tuesday.

One of the slain terrorists has been identified as Basit Dar, an “A” category terrorist who belonged to The Resistance Front (TRF), according to Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, V K Birdhi.

Birdhi said the terrorists were given an opportunity to surrender, but they continued their firing on the security personnel. “Two terrorists have been killed in this operation and their bodies have been retrieved, but the search operation is going on,” he said.
