HEATWAVE RELIEF FOR THESE STATES SOON

According to India Meteorological Department forecast, the heat wave conditions across east India are expected to gradually abate from May 1st as schools break for their summer vacation. But the southern regions of the Indian Peninsula are expected to experience heat wave conditions for the next five days.

In specific areas like Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, and Bihar, heat wave conditions persisted over the last few days, with isolated severe heat wave pockets, according to IMD. Additionally, isolated pockets in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Rayalaseema, Konkan, interior Karnataka, and Kerala experienced heat wave conditions. Odisha has been facing these conditions since April 15th, while Gangetic West Bengal has been affected since April 17th.

On Sunday, maximum temperatures soared to 42-45°C in parts of Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, and Rayalaseema. In East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Marathwada, Madhya Maharashtra, North Interior Karnataka, and Telangana, temperatures ranged from 40-42°C. Certain areas in Vidarbha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, and isolated pockets of Chhattisgarh and Gujarat also experienced high temperatures. These temperatures were 4-8°C above normal in many parts of Bihar and Gangetic West Bengal, as well as in some parts of Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and isolated pockets of north Odisha.

IMD's forecast for next five days

Heat wave to severe heat wave conditions are expected in many places over Odisha and Bihar till May 1st, and in Gangetic West Bengal till May 2nd, with a subsequent reduction in intensity. Isolated severe heat wave conditions are likely in Rayalaseema on May 2nd & 3rd. Additionally, isolated pockets in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Saurashtra & Kutch, Rayalaseema, Telangana, Interior Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Konkan & Goa, and Kerala are expected to experience heat wave conditions during this period.

Hot and humid weather is anticipated over various regions during specific periods, including West Assam, Tripura, south Gujarat Region, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Konkan & Goa, Kerala & Mahe, and Coastal Karnataka.

Heavy rainfall spell

A western disturbance, accompanied by a cyclonic circulation, is positioned over eastern Afghanistan and nearby areas, extending up to the middle tropospheric level, according to IMD. Additionally, another cyclonic circulation is situated over northwest Rajasthan and surrounding regions at lower tropospheric levels. Under the influence of these systems:

A significant area is expected to experience widespread to far-reaching light to moderate rainfall/snowfall, along with thunderstorms and lightning, across Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand

Punjab is expected to experience isolated to scattered rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds, and dust storms (with speeds of 40-50 kmph)

Strong surface winds (ranging from 25-35 kmph) are anticipated over west Madhya Pradesh, over east Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand from April 30th to May 2nd.
