IMD HEATWAVE, RAIN ALERT ACROSS INDIA: CHECK YOUR REGION'S WEATHER FORECAST HERE

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for heatwaves and rainfall across various regions of the country. Maximum temperatures exceeding 40°C were recorded in several areas, including West Rajasthan, East Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, North Madhya Maharashtra, Punjab, South Haryana, interior Tamil Nadu, North Interior Karnataka, Marathwada, and Vidarbha.

Heatwave alert:

The temperatures were above normal by 2-4°C in Rajasthan and 1-2°C in other regions. While no significant changes are expected in Northwest India's temperatures for the next two days, a decrease of 2-3°C is anticipated thereafter. In Central India, temperatures are forecast to drop by 2-3°C in the next 24 hours and rise by 2-4°C subsequently. Heatwave conditions are expected in isolated pockets of West Rajasthan and Kerala on May 9th and 10th, respectively, while hot and humid weather is likely in coastal areas of Gujarat over the next five days.

Orange alerts have been issued for Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Madhya Pradesh, while yellow alerts have been issued for other parts of India. No alerts have been issued for the western coastal region near Goa, Karnataka, and Maharashtra.

Rainfall alert:

Cyclonic circulations over northeast Assam, east Bangladesh, and a trough extending from east Assam to north Odisha are expected to bring widespread light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds, in West Bengal & Sikkim, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha during May 9th–12th. Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are forecasted in Bihar, West Bengal, and Jharkhand on May 9th–11th, with isolated heavy rainfall expected in some regions. Similar weather conditions are expected in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, and other northeastern states over the next seven days.

A cyclonic circulation over Madhya Maharashtra and a trough from northwest Rajasthan to west Vidarbha are likely to bring isolated to scattered rainfall, along with thunderstorms and gusty winds, in Vidarbha, Madhya Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, and other regions from May 9th–13th. Hailstorm activity is expected in Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada on May 9th and 10th. Similarly, isolated heavy rainfall is forecasted in South Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Rayalaseema, Telangana, Kerala, Mahe, and other regions on specific dates throughout May 2024.

Additionally, a western disturbance and cyclonic circulations over Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and other northern states are expected to bring scattered to widespread rainfall and thunderstorms from May 9th–13th. Duststorms and strong surface winds are also anticipated in various parts of Northwest India during this period.
