INCESSANT RAINS TRIGGER FLASH FLOODS, LANDSLIDES ACROSS JAMMU AND KASHMIR, 13-YEAR-OLD BOY DIES

A 13-year-old boy lost his life after a massive landslides hit residential houses in Kalapani area Karol Ramban.

A joint team of Army, Police and Baramulla administration along with locals rescued 7 persons trapped under debris after their house collapsed due to heavy rains in Bujhthala, Tehsil Boniyar, in Uri Baramulla.

A total of 336 families of flood-affected area of Kupwara and Handwara shifted to safer locations.

Five villages of Handwara fully affected by floods while as 51 villages of Handwara and Kupwara have partly effected.

Residential houses, Bridges and government buildings also suffered damages due to flash floods in Baramulla and Kupwara districts of North Kashmir.

51 shelters homes established in Kupwara for affected families. Border roads including Bandipora-Gurez road closed.

Divisional administration has ordered the closure of schools for tomorrow. Kashmir University has postponed all scheduled exams for tomorrow as well.

The Nallah Vishow in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district has crossed the flood danger mark and administrative has urged people living near the river to not venture out and remain extremely cautions.

Administration has also issued helpline numbers and asked citizens to abide by the advisories issued by the administration.

In Srinagar, the administration ordered the suspension of Shikra and boat transportation in River Jhelum and Dal Lake.

Metrological Department says the next few hours are crucial and current spell of rainfall will continue for 3 to 5 hours.

The disaster management authority has activitied men and machinery and is closely monitoring the situation.

NC President Farooq Abdullah too has urged administration to gear up and get ready for tackling the situation.
