JUDGE IN GYANVAPI COMPLEX CASE RECEIVES DEATH THREATS FROM INTERNATIONAL NUMBERS

Bareilly: Additional Sessions Judge Ravi Kumar Diwakar, who was in the news for his involvement in the Gyanvapi complex videography survey in 2022, has expressed concerns over receiving "malicious calls and death threats from international numbers." The judge has urged authorities to investigate these threats, which have raised alarm.

Previously, Justice Diwakar had raised similar concerns following the Gyanvapi judgment, prompting the Allahabad High Court to provide Y-category security for him and his family, later downgraded to X-category. Recently transferred to Bareilly, the judge took suo motu action on the 2018 Bareilly riots case, summoning senior cleric Tauqeer Raza as the alleged mastermind.

As per a TOI report, in a letter to the SSP, the judge conveyed his distress over receiving malicious calls from international numbers this week, describing the situation as "deeply concerning." Despite his current security detail, consisting of two personnel, an associate of the judge said that the security is inadequate, lacking armed personnel capable of countering potential threats from terrorists armed with automatic weapons.

Last year, a Popular Front of India (PFI) agent was apprehended near the judge's residence in Lucknow, prompting Shahjahanpur SSP Ashok Kumar Meena to deploy a gunner at the residence of Justice Diwakar's brother, also an additional district judge. However, the security measures were later revoked due to the Lok Sabha elections.
