‘NO RELEVANT EVIDENCE SHARED BY CANADA’: MEA ON 3 INDIANS ARRESTED IN NIJJAR KILLING
Days after Canadian police claimed that they have arrested three Indian nationals in connection with the killing of Khalistan separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, the Ministry of External Affairs on Thursday said Canada has not shared any specific or relevant evidence on the matter with India.
Addressing a press briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, "...Canada has informed us about the arrest. But we have not got any formal communication... No specific or relevant evidence or information has been given to us in this matter."
As per Canadian police, Karan Brar (22), Kamalpreet Singh (22) and Karanpreet Singh (28), all Indian nationals residing in Edmonton, have been charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
Canadian police have not been able to establish any link between the three arrested individuals and alleged Indian government agents that Trudeau mentioned.
Meanwhile, days after three Indian nationals were arrested, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who has claimed on multiple occasions New Delhi’s role in the death, said that the investigations are ongoing, as does a “separate and distinct investigation not limited to the involvement of the three people arrested”.
The three men were arrested last week by investigators of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) with the assistance of members of the British Columbia and Alberta Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and the Edmonton Police Service.
Citing sources, a Global News report said the suspects had entered Canada on “student visas but may have been working at the direction of Indian intelligence when they shot Nijjar”.
