SEVERE HEATWAVE GRIPS PARTS OF EASTERN INDIA, GANGETIC WEST BENGAL WORST-HIT

The searing heatwave conditions blazing across eastern India are taking their toll, with temperatures soaring unusually above average across multiple regions.

The Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Odisha are all reeling under the extreme heat wave conditions, according to reports.

The highest divergence from normal temperatures was witnessed at Kalaikunda in West Bengal, with the maximum temperature reaching a scorching 47.2 degrees Celsius, a significant 10.4 degrees above normal.

West Bengal capital Kolkata is also bracing for severe heatwave. The City of Joy, along with Dum Dum and Uluberia in West Bengal, has seen the mercury rise to an excruciating 43 degrees Celsius.

Jharkhand is also finding it tough to put off the heat onslaught. Bahragora, located in the east Singhbhum district, has logged an imposing maximum temperature of 47.1 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, Baripada and Balasore in Odisha recorded maximum temperatures as high as 46.4 degrees and 46.0 degrees Celsius respectively, adding to the woes of the people coping with the relentless high temperatures.

Bihar is another state in the throes of this indisputable heatwave, with Forbesganj recording a glaring 41.2 degrees Celsius. Similarly, Telangana has seen an agonising climb in temperature, with Ramgundam registering a maximum temperature of 44.4 degrees Celsius.

Often described as severe, current heat wave conditions are most impactful across Gangetic West Bengal. Reports also mention the presence of these extreme conditions in isolated pockets over Konkan region as well.
