TESLA WANTED TO INVEST IN TELANGANA, WAS PRESSURED TO...: REVANTH REDDY

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Wednesday claimed that American automotive company Tesla wanted to make investments in Telangana but was "pressured" to shift to Gujarat. In an exclusive interview to India Today TV, the Congress leader said that Foxconn and Tesla were pressured to leave.

"Is Telangana not part of India? They (Tesla) wanted to invest in Telangana... we know how to communicate. I am sitting in the Chief Minister's chair," Reddy said.

Launching an attack against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP-led central government, Reddy said, "PM Modi and Amit Shah think that only Gujarat is India. That is not the case. There are other states as well. They also have rights," Reddy said.

Reports stated that Tesla is looking for a location to set up its factory in India. Maharashtra and Gujarat reportedly extended land offers to Tesla for setting up the factory.

Tesla has been trying to get into the Indian market for a while and has been in touch with the government for over a year now.

Further alleging that the southern states are neglected by the Centre, Reddy questioned the representation of MPs from Telangana in the Union Cabinet.

"There are 42 Telugu-speaking MPs but only one cabinet minister out of them. However, Gujarat has 26 MPs and seven out of them are ministers. In Uttar Pradesh, they have given 12 ministers," Reddy said.

"I am clearly saying, in the eyes of Amit Shah and Narendra Modi, the people of South India are second-grade citizens," Reddy stated.
