TMC REMOVES KUNAL GHOSH AS GENERAL SECRETARY OVER BJP STAGE APPEARANCE

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Wednesday ousted Kunal Ghosh from his position as the General Secretary of the state organization of the party.

The development came hours after Ghosh was seen sharing the stage with ex-TMC MLA Tapas Roy, who is now with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and is its Kolkata Uttar candidate.

The TMC, in a statement, said that Ghosh has been "expressing views that do not align with those of the party".

"It is important to clarify that these are his personal opinions and should not be attributed to the party. Only statements issued from AITC headquarters should be considered the official position of the party," the statement added.

"Mr. Ghosh was previously relieved from his role as party spokesperson. Now, he has been removed from the position of General Secretary of the state organization. We urge all media outlets not to conflate his views with those of the party, as doing so may necessitate legal action," it further said.

During the event with Tapas Roy, Ghosh expressed fondness for Roy and acknowledged his past contributions as a TMC member. However, he maintained loyalty to the TMC's official candidate, Sudip Bandopadhay, while acknowledging Roy's candidacy as well.

"We tried to keep Tapas da in the party, in the same family, he is very dear to us, Tapas Da's doors are always open for the party workers and the public. Tapas Da's service to people in the past, is a big factor of politician Tapas Da today. It's unfortunate that in the field of politics, we are opponents. If you ask about the candidate for election, our candidate Sudip Bandopadhay is fighting, also I can't mark Tapas Da any less as a candidate, as a people's representative," he said.
