WEATHER UPDATE: DELHI SIZZLES AT 44 DEGREES; IMD PREDICTS SPELL OF RAIN IN THESE STATES TODAY. CHECK DETAILS

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted a period of rain in several regions, including the northeastern states, West Bengal, Bihar, and Odisha.

Northeast India

In its official release, IMD said, “Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall accompanied with isolated thunderstorm, lightning & gusty winds very likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura during next 7 days.”

It was further noted that heavy isolated rainfall will likely beover Arunachal Pradesh on Monday. Assam and Meghalaya on the Tuesday; and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura till the 7th. Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Assam & Meghalaya on 6th May.

North India

Isolated light to moderate rainfall is very likely over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-BaltistanMuzaffarabad on the 05th & 06th; over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand during 05th-08th and scattered to fairly widespread activity accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning & gusty winds during 09th-11th May.

Isolated light to moderate rainfall is likely over Haryana-Chandigarh, Punjab and East Rajasthan from 9th -11th and isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall activity over Uttar Pradesh from 07th-11th May 2024.

Central India

East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Jharkhand & Odisha during 06th-09th; over Vidarbha & Chhattisgarh during next 5 days. Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Gangetic West Bengal on the 06th & 07th and over Odisha on the 07th & 08th of May 2024.

South India

Isolated to scattered light to moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm & lightning & gusty winds very likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, Kerala & Mahe, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Rayalaseema, Telangana during the next 5 days; over North and South Interior Karnataka on 07th & 08th; over Lakshadweep on 09th May, 2024.

Isolated heavy rainfall is very likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal & Rayalaseema on the 7th and 8th; over Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Telangana & South Interior Karnataka on the 7th and over Kerala & Mahe on the 08th & 09th May 2024.

Heatwave 

Delhi recorded its hottest day of the year on Sunday, with a maximum temperature of 41.1°C. This was two degrees above the usual temperature for this time of year and one degree higher than the previous day, as reported by the IMD.

Meanwhile, IMD said, “heatwave to severe heat wave conditions are very likely in isolated pockets over interior Karnataka during the 05th -07th; West Rajasthan during the 07th-09th; over East Rajasthan and West Madhya Pradesh on the 8th and 9th and over Saurashtra during the 06th -09th May.”

IMD further said that hot and humid weather is very likely to prevail in isolated pockets over Gujarat State during the next 5 days; Jharkhand on 05th & 06th; over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Coastal Karnataka and Kerala &Mahe during 05th-07th; over Rayalaseema during 07th-09th May.
