MAN RAISES CONCERNS AFTER A HARROWING EXPERIENCE IN UBER CAB: ‘PASSENGER SAFETY IS A JOKE’

The passenger shared the story on X.

A man who took an Uber cab in Delhi has brought passenger safety concerns to the forefront after he and his wife faced problems during a ride. Gajender Yadav recounted the driver's behaviour as "absolutely nonsense," alleging that after travelling just 1 kilometre, the driver demanded an additional Rs 200.

In a post on X, Yadav identified the cab driver and said, “If you are in Delhi....don't take ride with KARAN....car number DL1RTB4168”.

“Absolutely nonsense behavior from @Uber_Support @Uber_India cab driver. After driving for 1 km....cab driver started asking for Rs 200 extra. My wife even pressed SOS button for help from Uber 2 fix this matter. It's been 2 days and not a single person from Uber care to know exactly why SOS was pressed. No follow up. That's the condition of UBER INDIA”.

In a thread, Yadav talked about Uber's lack of response and said, "I can 100% sure they even won't care to check the matter even after this post. Passenger safety is a Joke to Uber”.

Yadav questioned why the SOS button failed to function and demanded accountability for the driver's actions, particularly in asking a woman passenger to exit the vehicle during the ride.

The post gained over 2.2 million views.

He also said he got a call from the ride-hailing company “after this thread went Viral”. In an update, Yadav said he got a call from Uber, saying it had terminated the driver's Uber account. Additionally, Uber assured that the driver's cab would no longer be available on the platform. He also expressed gratitude for the support received from people on X.

Yadav highlighted a dedicated safety helpline number which connects passengers with Uber's Safety Department in case of emergencies. However, he said the effectiveness of the SOS button within the cab is uncertain, as it is installed by a third party. He urged others to prioritise their safety when travelling with Uber and shared his positive experience with the safety helpline number, which connected him with assistance in under a minute.

A second user wrote, “I was told by a Uber driver that the sos button is only for show and it does not work... He even pressed it two times in front of me and nothing happened.”

Another said, “that sounds like such a frustrating experience! I hope Uber gets back to you soon and addresses this situation properly. Your safety and peace of mind should definitely be a priority for them! Hang in there!”
