WHAT HAPPENED AT THE SANDY HOOK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL?

On December 14, 2012, a lone gunman, 20-year-old Adam Lanza, decided to wreak havoc on Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newton, Connecticut. It resulted in one of the most devastating tragedies in American history, and a new documentary has sparked renewed interest in the events leading up to that day, and its aftermath.

That morning was no different from any other. However, things rapidly spiraled downwards when Lanza broke into the school shortly after 9:30 a.m.. He entered through a plate-glass window, armed with a semiautomatic rifle and some handguns. Upon hearing the commotion, the school principal and psychologist approached the gunman. However, unbeknownst to them, it would later end in their untimely demise.

Lanza first targeted two first-grade classrooms, disrupting the learning atmosphere with a barrage of bullets. Within minutes, he claimed several lives. 20 children, between the ages of 6 and 7, were found dead, along with six staff members. After this, he turned the gun on himself, ending his own life at around 9:40 p.m., transforming a sphere of learning into a site of unspeakable anguish.
