WHO IS ROB SCOTT, NY DEMOCRAT COUNCILMAN ARRESTED FOR FAKING SIGNATURES ON ELECTION PETITION?

Rob Scott, a Democrat serving in the Peekskill Common Council in New York, was charged Monday with filing a false document after allegedly faking the signatures in a 2023 petition to run for the county lawmaker seat. He was arrested on Wednesday.

Scott allegedly used fraudulent signatures while filing his candidacy in the 2023 Democratic primary for the Westchester County Board of Legislators. The 44-year-old allegedly submitted signatures of three people who had died in 2012, 2017 and 2022. Eight other people whose names were included in the petition told prosecutors that they never signed it.

According to reports, the 37-page petition containing the signatures of 537 individuals, was rejected by the Westchester Board of Elections due to insufficient signatures.

District Attorney Miriam Rocah said that “free and fair elections are the foundation of our democracy," while announcing Scott's arrest Wednesday. “Undermining the petition process in an attempt to get on the ballot in an election violates the public’s trust,” Roach said.

Scott is scheduled to be arraigned in White Plains City Court on April 30.
