BABAR AZAM CAPTAIN, HARIS RAUF RETURNS: PAKISTAN SQUAD FOR T20 WORLD CUP 2024 LEAKED

Pakistan's squad for the T20 World Cup was set to be announced on May 1, however, the PCB decided to delay the announcement due to fitness and performance issues with a few players. The fans were keenly waiting for the squad, however, a PCB source informed that the squad would be announced on May 23 or 24 - which is the final date when teams will be allowed to modify their T20 World Cup squad.

Meanwhile, an unofficial Pakistan squad for the T20 World Cup was leaked on social media. As per the leaked squad, Babar Azam will lead Pakistan in the marquee event in the West Indies and USA while Mohammad Rizwan will be his deputy. Rizwan picked up an injury during the T20I series against New Zealand and an update on his fitness is awaited. The squad also had Imad Wasim and Mohammad Amir, who came out of retirement to participate in the T20 World Cup.

Shaheen Shah Afridi, Naseem Shah, and Haris Rauf also were named in the squad along with veteran Fakhar Zaman and all-rounders Shadab Khan and Salman Ali Agha. One of the notable names missing out in the squad was Iftikhar Ahmed. Zaman Khan, Azam Khan, and Mehran Mumtaz were kept in traveling reserves.

“It (delay) doesn’t matter because all these teams can change their entire squad by 24th May after that changes can only be allowed on fitness or injury basis with the approval of the technical committee,” A PCB source said while confirming the delay in the squad.

“That is why the PCB and selectors have decided to hold off until after the first match in England.”

Meanwhile, Pakistan will play three T20Is against Ireland, followed by four T20Is against England before the T20 World Cup. The Ireland series gets underway on May 10, followed by matches on May 12 and 14. Pakistan will play 1st T20I against England on May 22, with the final game to be played on May 30.

Pakistan are kept in Group A of the T20 World Cup alongside India, USA, Ireland and Canada. The Men in Green will play the USA on June 6 before locking horns with India on June 9. The match against Canada will take place on June 11, followed by the game against Ireland on June 16. 20 teams have been divided into four groups of five teams. The top two teams from each group will qualify for Super 8s.
