INDIAN KARATEKAS SHINE AT WORLD KEMPO CHAMPIONSHIPS IN TURKEY WITH 19 MEDALS

Indian martial arts players excelled at the World Kempo Championships held recently in Turkey with youngsters winning as many as 19 medals.

India, represented by students of Utpal Shanghvi Global School (USGS & PPSIJC, Mumbai) bagged 3 gold, 2 silver and 14 bronze medals at the World Kempo Championships held in Antalya, Turkey from April 22 to 28. Kempo is synthesized mainly from Japanese and Okinawan martial arts such as karate and judo, with influence from Chinese martial arts.

According to the USGS & PPSIJC, Mumbai officials, these students competed on the world stage with representation from more than 100 member countries and 1450 student competitors.

Indian players entered the finals of five events and managed to win three gold medals, while a couple of them went down fighting in the summit clashes.

Dr Ravi Lalwani and Reshma Lalwani, representing India, once again cleared the World Referee Course which was simultaneously conducted in Antalya.

Viewers were able to witness the high degree of energy and challenging levels of competition at every stage, with this event being telecast live.

Kempo karate is a martial arts form which teaches you a lot of life lessons in the form of courage, self-confidence, self-defense, discipline and mental tenacity, which is needed in today’s fast paced world.
